Well, we're back from Nantucket and the transition back to the real world has been a doozy to say the least. To ease my anxiety over the ever growing pile on my desk, I pretty much come home and gaze at all of my photos from last week while pretending I'm still on the beach (it sure is hot enough in Boston). But I digress...over the next few posts I'll be sharing a few moments from our lovely time in the heavenly paradise that is Nantucket. Read on!
One of the most relaxing parts of everyday was starting it off with a long morning walk along the Bluff Walk in Sconset. You meander along a tiny path that winds through bushes of beach roses and overlooks the most gorgeous of ocean views. You're also in prime house-stalking position as the path goes right through the back yards (really!) of all of the gorgeous ocean front properties.
You can compare lush gardens and expansive porches while pondering which digs you'd like to buy (with the approximate $10 you have saved while living in Beacon Hill). If you're feeling up to it (and I recommend you do), when the path ends continue on down Baxter Road until you hit the Sankaty Head Lighthouse. Take in the views, snap a few pics, and say a mental note to yourself about how lucky you are to be in such a wonderful spot! You can head back by following Baxter Road all the way back into town, or turning back onto the bluff walk for the rest of your return trip. I personally recommend taking Baxter Road so you could enjoy the front of the houses that you have now successfully stalked.
Pretty gorgeous right?! Next time you're in Nantucket, I highly recommend starting the day off with this walk along the bluff walk. If you walk all the way to the Sankaty Lighthouse, the walk totals about three miles and is a pretty good workout. Take some deep breaths of the ocean air and and get those legs pumpin'!
To get there, head to Sconset and park your bike or car (there's hour long parking on the little rotary). Walk towards the ocean until you hit Front Street and turn left. Follow Front Street until the road curves slightly and you will see a narrow pathway off to the right...a few more steps across the first yard and you'll see the sign for the "'Sconset Bluff Walk" on your left!
On you're way back, I recommend popping into Moors End Farm for some fresh veggies and beautiful flowers. Moors End is one of my all time favorite farm stands on Nantucket, they always have the best veggies and I particularly like their method for storing lettuce in an old bathtub!
