On our second day in Madrid, we stopped by the Madrid Botanical Gardens after a fairly large tapas lunch. It's always nice to walk around after eating out so you feel a little less like a blob...especially on vacation. I had done some research on Madrid, and the botanical gardens kept popping up as a must see. We happened to be eating nearby, so we stopped by on a whim.
The gardens are huge and full of places to get lost and explore. They had a beautiful flower garden full of the most gorgeous dahlias I've ever seen. Everywhere you turn you're greeted by a new smell whether it's flowers, herbs, or oranges. It's absolutely glorious to meander around in and I'd highly recommend a visit if you're in Madrid (it's only 3 euros). If you're looking for a relaxing afternoon, bring a book, find a good bench, and make yourself at home surrounded by all the gorgeousness around you.
