This week has been pretty busy with lots of babysitting as well as some baking (and getting paid for it)! I've also been trying out hot yoga. I am what some may refer to as exercise ADD so I like trying new methods of getting some exercise that switch things up. I've gone through long phases of doing a lot of yoga before, but never hot. Let me tell you-- they are not lying when they say hot! I think I lose five pounds of water weight just from sweating each class. But it does feel good when you're done.
On a more serious note, today is National Stress Awareness Day. As someone who struggles with anxiety issues and getting easily overwhelmed, today is a good day to reflect on stress in our society and it's effects. Countless studies have been done and there is no denying that as a society we are stressed, and growing more stressed every year. People's workloads are increasing and their hours in the office are growing. Everyone barely has the time to recharge their bodies at night before they wake up and do it all over again.
Maybe I am naive but I strongly believe that people are working themselves to death (and in fact there are facts to prove it). The first step to stopping this downward spiral is awareness, and acknowledging and respecting the fact that we work too much. With a simple google search, or trip to the library you can find countless articles and studies about the health concerns correlated with stress. Yes, there are ways to reduce our stress, but they do not eliminate the issue as a whole. So, in honor of National Stress Awareness Day, I challenge you all to read a little bit about this growing epidemic (yes I said epidemic). Also, take some time out of the day for yourself --whether that means a nice walk outside, listening to some music or doing some yoga, make yourself a priority!
